Technology Initiative
2006 Writing and Technology: A Professional Writing Retreat
Application Deadline: April 3, 2006
To submit your application, go to: http://www.nwp.org/cs/public/print/events/168
Application Overview
Participation in this writing retreat is by application only. The pool of
participants will be as representative as possible of the
geographic, racial, and ethnic diversity of the writing project. It
will include teacher-consultants and site leaders—kindergarten through
university—with a range of writing interests, experience, and
content-area knowledge. The retreat is limited to 20 participants.
The retreat leadership seeks applicants who are ready to make good
use of
the time and support provided at the retreat, have a clear
idea of what they will write about, and can bring materials (such as teaching materials, data from your classroom, or
technology tools) to the retreat
that will allow them to make significant progress in
their
work.
Note: This retreat is not a technology institute or workshop.
Although the retreat offers a supportive and tech-friendly
environment, it is the participants who are the "experts" with respect to the
technology they've been using; the focus of this retreat is writing.
Please keep this in mind when responding to the application questions
below.
Application Guidelines
The application process requires:
- up-to-date contact information via your NWPi profile (you will be prompted to
update your information after you begin the submission process)
- answers to the application questions below
- a
brief letter from your director indicating support for your
continued
writing and leadership at the site. (After submitting your application,
your writing project site director will receive an email notification
requesting this letter.)
Please answer the following questions in a Word (.doc) or text (.txt) document (limit: 2 pages). (You will have the choice to either copy and paste or attach your response after you begin the submission process.)
- Tell us a little about yourself. What is the name of the school or
educational institution where you currently work? What are your areas
of expertise (subjects) and the grade levels you teach?
- What has been your experience with writing? What has been your experience with technology?
- What is the work you hope to accomplish at the retreat? Tell us about
a professional article or project on which you would like to
work. We are particularly interested in the potential of your work to contribute
to the knowledge of your colleagues, your writing project site, or your
school community.
- What is your involvement in the work of your writing project site?
- Although attendance at a prior writing retreat is not a requirement, we are
interested in your experience with professional writing. If you've been
involved in a professional writing retreat at your site, or if you plan
to provide leadership in this area, briefly describe your activities
and/or plans.
Letter of Support
Please ask your site director to respond as quickly as possible to
the
email inquiry s/he will receive after you have submitted your 2006
Writing and Technology application online. Your application will not be
complete until we receive the letter of support mentioned above.
