2007 Writing and Technology: A Professional Writing Retreat

Application Overview

Participation in this writing retreat is by application only. The pool of participants will be as representative as possible of the geographic, racial, and ethnic diversity of the writing project.

The retreat is limited to 20 participants. Applicants working on collaborative projects should email Christina Cantrill at techinitiative@nwp.org in advance in order to determine if  this retreat can accommodate you.

The retreat leadership seeks applicants who

• wish to write about their professional practices related to literacy and technology
• are ready to make good use of the time and support provided at the retreat
• have a clear idea of what they will write about
• can bring materials (such as teaching materials, classroom data, or technology tools) to the retreat that will allow them to make significant progress in their work
  
• are prepared to support others in their work throughout the retreat, since participants will be working in small response groups.

Please note: This retreat is not a technology institute or workshop. Although the retreat offers a supportive and tech-friendly environment, its focus is writing. Please keep this in mind when responding to the application questions below.

Application Questions

Please answer the following questions in a Word (.doc) or text (.txt) document (limit: 2 pages). (You will have the choice to either copy and paste or attach your response after you begin the submission process.)

1. Tell us a little about yourself. What is the name of the school or educational institution where you currently work? What are your areas of expertise (subjects) and the grade levels you teach?
2. What has been your experience with writing? What has been your experience with technology?
3. What is the work you hope to accomplish at the retreat? Tell us about a professional article or project on which you would like to work. We are particularly interested in the potential of your work to contribute to the knowledge of your colleagues, your writing project site, and/or your school community.
4. Describe your involvement in the work of your writing project site.
5. Although attendance at a prior writing retreat is not a requirement, we are interested in your experience with professional writing about your professional practices. If you've been involved in a professional writing retreat at your site, or if you plan to provide leadership in this area, briefly describe your activities and/or plans.

Letter of Support

Please ask your site director to respond as quickly as possible to the email inquiry she or he will receive after you have submitted your application online. Your application will not be complete until we receive the letter of support.
