About the Directors Retreat

This event is designed for writing project leaders, typically directors and co-directors, who have primary responsibility for decision making at their site and accountability for the quality of its programs.

From the applications received by March 17, 2008, the leadership team will select a group of site leaders that represents the cultural and geographic diversity of NWP. Sites will be notified by March 31 if selected to participate.

Preference will be given to teams of two and to those who have not attended within the past three years. The Directors Retreat is not recommended for leaders of new sites in their first three years.

Participants should plan to be present for the entire retreat, from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, through 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 3, 2008.

The purpose of the application is to help the leadership team select a diverse group of participants and plan a retreat that is responsive to the needs of those attending. In addition to responding to the application questions (2–3 pages), please be sure to provide complete contact information for each participant on your team before you submit your application.

1. What role(s) do you play at your writing project site? Describe each team member's role separately. How long has each of you been in the leadership position you hold, and what are your responsibilities?
   
2. What are some particular strengths of your writing project site?
   
3. What challenges do you face in the work of your site? What questions would you like to explore with a group of NWP colleagues?
   
4. Please indicate that you can both attend the full retreat, from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, to 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 3, 2008.
