Request for Proposals
The Rural Sites Network and the Third Coast Writing Project invite proposals for the 2009 Rural Sites Network Conference, Open Spaces and Small Cities: The Landscape of Rural Education.
Of particular interest are proposals that address one of the following issues:
- Diversity and equity in rural schools
- Meeting the needs of English Language Learners in small rural schools
- Exploring and sharing innovative practices and promising classroom or site practices
- Community and critical pedagogy of place
- Meeting the challenges of geographic isolation for professional development
- Implementing technological innovations as tools for learning or site development
- Reading the research sessions
Sessions
There will be 75-minute interactive sessions that showcase writing and teaching in rural schools. Similar proposals may be combined to create a single session.
Requirements
To submit a proposal for a session, please provide the following information:
- Cover sheet (available online at http://www.nwp.org/cs/public/print/events/368)
- Narrative description, not to exceed 250 words, to include:
- Purpose and goals for session
- A description of the work that will be the focus of the presentation. What rural questions, challenges, or problems does the work address? What solutions does the work propose or what outcomes/results emerged from the work?
- A description of how you will engage the audience. What interactive activities might you include in the presentation (e.g. small group tasks, discussion focused on specific questions, audience participation)? How will these activities help you achieve your purposes and goals for the presentation?

All proposals must be submitted online at http://www.nwp.org/cs/public/print/events/368. The deadline for submitting proposals is November 7, 2008.
