About the Directors Retreat

This event is designed for teams of two writing project site leaders, typically a director and a co-director or key teacher-leader, who have primary responsibility for decision making at their site and accountability for the quality of its programs.

The group of leaders selected from the applications received by March 22, 2010 will be as representative as possible of the cultural, racial, and geographic diversity of the NWP. Selected sites will be notified by March 31, 2010.

Preference will be given to those who have not attended within the past three years. The Directors Retreat is not recommended for leaders of new sites in their first three years.

The purpose of the application is to help the leadership team select a diverse group of participants and plan a retreat that is responsive to the needs of those attending. In addition to responding to the application questions, please be sure to provide complete contact information for each participant on your team before you submit your application.

The 2010 Directors Retreat will be held at the Tubac Golf Resort and Spa in Tubac, Arizona. The NWP will cover the cost of double-occupancy lodging, breakfast, lunch, and three evening group meals. Participating sites will cover the cost of transportation to and from the retreat and one "on-your-own" evening meal. Lodging arrangements at the resort will not accommodate site leaders' partners or family members.

Participants should plan to be present for the entire retreat, which begins at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, and ends at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2010.

Application

For each participant on your team, please provide the following contact information:

Because a primary purpose of the application is to help the leadership team plan a retreat that is responsive to the needs of those attending, in addition to providing contact information for each participant on your team, please respond to the following questions (2–3 pages):

  1. What role(s) do you play at your writing project site? Describe each team member's role and responsibilities separately, including how long each of you has been in the leadership position you hold.
  2. What are some particular strengths of your writing project site?
  3. What challenges do you face in the work of your site?
  4. What are the current priorities for your work and the work of your site?
  5. What questions would you like to explore with a group of NWP colleagues at the Directors Retreat?

You will be notified by March 31, 2010, about your participation in the NWP Directors Retreat. At that time we will send additional details about the venue and the retreat.
