Board Member since 2009; Member of Advancement & Sustainability Committee

Director of Communications for the Council of School Supervisors & Administrators, AFL-CIO, New York, NY

Chiara Coletti is the Director of Communications for the Council of School Supervisors & Administrators, AFL-CIO. In this role, she advises the president on all communications strategies for the organization—including public strategies involving rights and responsibilities of school principals and assistant principals, day care directors and assistant directors, and retirees—as well as on matters such as contract negotiations, school governance, the Employee Free Choice Act, and pertinent sections of ARRA.

For seven years she served as Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs for the College Board. She played a key role in expanding the Board's Advanced Placement Program into inner city schools, launching the new SAT with writing, and developing the National Commission on Writing. She created the Inspiration Awards for America's most improved high schools and the Bob Costas Grants for the Teaching of Writing.

Ms. Coletti also led the Division of Communications for New York City Schools, under Chancellor Rudolph F. Crew, where she designed the communications strategy for the reform of the School Governance Law and launched the Chancellor's Literacy Campaign for third grade students citywide.

For a decade Ms. Coletti worked for Times Mirror's sibling newspapers, Newsday and New York Newsday, where she was Vice President of Public Affairs and Special Assistant to the Publisher. As chief spokesperson, she expanded media visibility for both papers, contributing to the awarding of five Pulitzer Prizes in five years to Newsday, Inc. She led the newspaper's award-winning Newspapers-in-Education program. In the corporate social responsibility arena, she directed numerous education programs including Shakespeare for the Schools on Broadway with the NYC Shakespeare Festival.

She has also been a freelance writer, a curriculum specialist in literature for the State of Hawaii, and an English instructor at the American University in Paris and the Sorbonne. She served as Corporate Communications Advisor to Commissioner David J. Stern at the NBA, where she worked on the launch of the WNBA, and as Senior Vice President of the Corporate Social Responsibility practice at M Booth & Associates Public Relations.

For 20 years she has served on the board of Youth Communications, a publishing company for inner city teens and for youth in foster care.

Ms. Coletti received her BA from The Pennsylvania State University and her MA from San Francisco State University's Graduate Writers Workshop.
