Writing Our Future

Overview

Writing Our Future is a writing, publishing, and digital arts program for teachers and their students ages 13–18. Writing Our Future embraces 21st century technologies and literacy skills to provide students with opportunities to write persuasively in a variety of media and for online audiences.

Current Project: Letters to the Next President: The Video Campaign

Writing Our Future's current project, Letters to the Next President: The Video Campaign, is an online publishing project that invites students to create video compositions about issues they want the president to address. Register for the project on the Digital Arts Alliance website.

Student work from around the country will be published by their teachers this spring, and will be featured on the project's website, Letters to the Next President .

Developed in conjunction with the Pearson Foundation's Digital Arts Alliance , Letters to the Next President: The Video Campaign builds upon the success of the original Letters to the Next President effort in which nearly 6,000 students from around the country wrote letters to the presidential candidates during the fall election campaign.

Developed by the National Writing Project and Google , Letters to the Next President utilized Google Docs , the online composing tool, to support teachers in publishing persuasive writing by students that focused on issues in the public sphere.

Future Projects

Writing Our Future plans to sponsor additional writing and publishing projects to encourage students to write persuasively and informatively for "real world" purposes and audiences. Join the Writing Our Future discussion list to receive announcements about future projects.
