State and Regional Networks Events
2010 Regional Inservice Institute
July 15–17, 2010
Austin, Texas
Host site: Heart of Texas Writing Project
This working retreat will bring together two-person teams from writing project sites and provide them with information, time, and resources for broadening and expanding their site's work in schools. Appropriate for all sites—whether you are rethinking already existing programs or conceiving new ones—this retreat will help you consider successful models and programs and extend your site's capacity for providing inservice work.
Goals are to support site teams to:
- network with NWP site leaders from across the region
- think about building capacity for inservice work at their site
- examine successful models of inservice and the theory behind their success
- develop a strategic plan to extend and broaden their site's inservice work.
Cost
NWP will cover the cost of the retreat, including lodging (all rooms double occupancy) and meals, once participants arrive. Local writing project sites will cover the cost of their team's travel to and from Austin, Texas, and one "dinner on your own" for each member.
Application Overview
Participation in the 2010 Regional Inservice Institute is by application only. The institute is limited to teams of two participants from twenty sites. The application consists of answers to the questions found in the Complete Application Information (below) and a completed registration form (also found below). Please submit one application per team.
Deadline for registration is March 19, 2010 or when capacity is reached. Sites will be notified of their acceptance when the review process has been completed. More details about the institute will be sent to participating sites at that time.
Selecting Your Site's Team
The site team attending should include key site leaders who have a part in developing and supporting inservice work at the site. Ideally, a director or co-director should be part of the two-member team. Team members should be familiar with the inservice needs and interests of teachers and schools in the site's service area, inservice work currently being offered, the teacher-consultant community, and the site's theory of action around inservice, and should be committed to working with the site's leadership during the next year on moving forward with plans developed at the institute.
