In this roundtable session, we engage teachers in looking closely at samples of student work, including drawings and writing, as a springboard for our own writing and discussion about how such work could inform our writing instruction. Too often the educational discussion about classrooms goes like this: Make sure to teach in order to assess students’ writing. Because we strongly believe that students should inform instruction and assessment, we have developed some novel ways during recent years to incorporate students’ point of view into discussions about writing instruction. This session will provide some experiences with those strategies.
