Don't miss the biggest National Writing Project event of the year--the 2001 NWP Annual Meeting, November 15–17, in Baltimore. Come join more than 700 site directors, teacher-consultants, and friends of the writing project at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel for a chance to share practices, learn about innovative programs, and honor accomplishments of the past year.

Thursday: Premeeting Workshops and ELL Reception
Get started on Thursday, November 15, with a day of premeeting workshops focusing on core components of the NWP model, including the summer institute, inservice, teacher leadership, and continuity programs. (See the schedule on the 2001 Annual Meeting Web page.) Please note that Thursday sessions require preregistration due to limited space (link here to sign up online.).

Also on Thursday, all participants are invited to attend the NWP English Language Learners Network Reception, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., featuring special guest Laurie Olsen, author of Made in America: Immigrant Students in Our Public Schools.

Friday: General Sessions, Author Recognition, and Social Gathering
The annual meeting main events are scheduled for Friday, November 16, beginning with registration at 7:30 a.m., the general session from 8:30 to 10 a.m., and four rounds of workshop sessions from 10:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Choose from nearly 60 sessions conducted by writing project directors and teacher-consultants from across the country on a variety of topics including teacher research, social action in the classroom, working with new teachers, teaching English language learners, young writers programs, school partnerships, community partnerships, student academic writing, publishing for the NWP, and numerous others.

Don't miss the NWP author recognition and social gathering on Friday night from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. If you or someone at your site has published a book in the past year, submit that information to be included in a special booklet to be published for the meeting, "Celebrating NWP Authors." To be included, please complete the online form, or mail or fax the form that was sent to all site directors in August.

Saturday: Special-Interest Meetings, Maryland WP 20th Anniversary
Saturday events focus primarily on special-interest meetings such as the leadership teams from the NWP Urban Sites Network, English Language Learners Network, Project Outreach, and the new Teacher Inquiry Community Network, in addition to meetings of the NWP state networks, Tech Liaison Project, and new sites and mentors. The NWP Rural Sites Network Annual Meeting on Saturday afternoon is open to all interested participants.

Finally, the Maryland Writing Project invites all participants to a reception on Saturday evening to celebrate the site's 20th anniversary. Location, time, and further details can be found at the NWP 2001 Annual Meeting Web page.

NCTE Registration and Hotel Information
The NWP Annual Meeting is held in conjunction with the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention, and NWP participants are encouraged to register for the NCTE meeting. Registration and hotel reservation forms are available online. Or, reserve your hotel room online. Keep in mind that all NWP events will take place at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel, 700 Aliceanna Street. If you plan to attend and haven't yet made your hotel and flight reservations, please do so today.
