There are a lot of students who are just natural readers and who love to do it and others who come to it much more reluctantly. I think that at least for high school students, and I suspect for a lot of younger ones as well, the real attraction in quality literature is that it focuses on big ideas. Not everybody loves to delve into the act of reading, but most people like to talk about ideas. And sometimes that's a way to get kids involved.
