Excerpt from Story
Sen. Barack Obama's speech tonight will be historic. It can also be instructive. One IPS (Indianapolis Public Schools) teacher has asked her students to send letters to Sen. Obama and Sen. John McCain. This is all part of the National Writing Project. . . .
Many of the students didn't immediately embrace the letter-writing campaign but are warming to the challenge.
"I think it is about them capturing their voice, once they realize they actually have a voice and people want to hear it," Garland said. "That makes them more responsive."
