Michigan Students Put Pen to Paper

Summary: Students at Flat Rock High School took the time to write, write, and write some more as part of the National Day on Writing festivities on campus, sponsored by the Eastern Michigan Writing Project.

Andrea Gillies, an English teacher at the school, coordinated this year's event. Flat Rock's writing day was held in conjunction with Eastern Michigan University's National Writing Project.

"This is a day for you to write what you want to write," Mrs. Gillies said to the students in the third session.

In each of the five sessions, students had the option of writing on two prompts, which included word associations, photo stories, opening lines and an alphabet story. Others could write on their own topics, work on projects they had not finished for class or free write.
