What do you do during your summer vacations? My husband and I do the Advanced Summer Institute of the National Writing Project through Southeastern Louisiana University every summer, and we travel. I like the mountains; he likes the city. We compromise. Last summer it was the Smokies; this summer it's DC. We also attend a four-day silent retreat every summer at St. Joseph's Abbey before we return to work in the fall.

Do you aspire to become a principal one day? Never. I was a counselor for two years and couldn't wait to return to my classroom. School counseling is a very tough job, troubleshooting all day. My classroom is a happy place. I feel like a counselor most days, but there's always laughter.
