Teachers Flock to Northern Virginia for Prestigious Writing Project

The teachers—25 from Northern Virginia and nine from Winchester-area schools—will split their time at Handley High School and George Mason University through July 29. They will hear from fellow educators and writers, and work through daily writing workshops.

"We flood them with resources that they can bring back to the classroom," said Mary Tedrow, a Handley English teacher and co-director of the Northern Virginia Writing Project.

"Writing has grown in importance in so many professions," said Paul Rogers, an English professor at George Mason University and associate director of the project. "So in order to meet those needs, we need to teach writing across every curriculum."
