A while later, Maria sat quietly at a corner table putting her thoughts into words that flowed freely across her sheet of paper.

The Avondale fifth-grader wrote vividly about how the goat felt and looked, and how it ate.

"When the goat eats from my hand, it tickles me. They don't eat like cows," Maria wrote. "When they eat, it sounds like they are munching chips."
