Excerpt from Article
Each year, the UWM Writing Project, based in the School of Education, selects about 20 teachers of all subjects to participate in the summer institute. The project is an affiliate of the National Writing Project (NWP), a network of more than 200 sites designed to improve writing and learning in the nation's classrooms.
Terri Lewis, a first-grade teacher from Kluge Elementary School, says she wanted a chance to make her writing better and learn from other teachers.
"I love writing and I thought it would enhance my skill as a writer," says Lewis. She adds that she really enjoyed the writing marathon where she got to reflect on nature as her group walked to places such as North Point Lighthouse and the UWM Alumni House.
