Students Get Writing Lessons Over Summer Break

The program—known as Young Writers Camp—is the only one in Oceanside, though other North County schools have similar lessons as part of a partnership with Cal State San Marcos.
"We want kids to get excited about writing and realize that it's not a scary thing," said Anna Ramos, who oversees the camp at Laurel and teaches one of the four classes for students going into grades two through five in August.
That excitement can also prompt the children to write more and take more risks in their assignments during the typical school year, Ramos said.
"When you get these kids back in September, they're ready to write right away," she said.
