Kim Blevins, who has taught language arts for 10 years, currently teaches at Mt. Vernon High. She is a published writer and has presented workshops at Write to Learn, a statewide language arts conference, according to a news release.

"It's feels strange to get an award like this because there are so many great teachers out there who just didn't fill out the paperwork," Blevins said in the release. "There are countless great teachers out there in the trenches, caring about their students, working hard to be the best educator they can."

Blevins has been active with the National Writing Project through the local division of the Ozarks Writing Project at Missouri State University since 2008. She leads a monthly professional development night for the Ozarks Writing Project, the release said.
