To help teachers meet this goal, NWIWP is emphasizing writing argumentative essays based on valid written sources, a skill that is required in college-level composition courses, [site director Carolyn] Boiarsky said.
Boiarsky also said although the institute will focus on college-prep writing, it will continue to emphasize that students need to learn to write in a wide range of genres, including fiction, nonfiction narratives, poetry, essays, drama, technical reports, blogs and YouTube scripts."
