Reading and writing poetry enlivens curriculum. Any curriculum! For instance, do we attend to the arts of a given culture or historical period in our social studies/history classes? Do we give consideration to the relationship of the arts to science and mathematics? Any teacher who brings poetry into his/her curriculum is wisely casting a fatter net than ever for the interest of students who might otherwise reject the content of the course.
