Janelle Quintans Bence

Teacher, New Tech High @ Coppell, Coppell, TX

Janelle Quintans Bence currently facilitates English in a blended Humanities class at New Tech High @ Coppell in Texas. She has vast experience with English Language Learners and has taught for fourteen years in both urban and suburban school districts. Janelle is President Elect of North Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts, her local NCTE site. She is an active member of the North Star of Texas Writing Project, at the University of North Texas, where she serves on the technology team as an Educator Innovator. Janelle is an active teacher-leader at both local and national levels and has presented at many national conferences such as NWP, NCTE, and SITE. Her passion is teaching writing and offering her learners authentic learning experiences where they have opportunities to make meaningful changes in the world. Most recently, Janelle has been working with NWP-related projects such as Do Now, and she presented this work as part of a panel at the NWP Spring Meeting in March, 2014.

Janelle often participates as both presenter and facilitator of many webinars via Educator Innovator, NWP Radio, and Teachers Teaching Teachers. She contributed to a chapter in NWP's Teaching in the Connected Learning Classroom (2014). Janelle is also one of the contributing authors to the recent NWP publication, Teacher Voices: Teaching Young Men of Color (2013). Her future projects include working with PBS NewsHour in the exciting Student Reporting Labs initiative, while continuing integrating social and digital media in responsive literacy project design.
