Dr. Rahat Naqvi is an Associate Professor in Second Language Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education, University of Calgary. She holds an M.A, an M.Phil and a PhD in the Didactics of Languages and Cultures from the Universite de la Sorbonne, Paris, France. Dr. Naqvi's research has involved school boards and the pre-service teacher education program at the University of Calgary as well as relevant political stakeholders and policymakers in Alberta and beyond. It includes:

  1. creating a greater awareness around the benefits of bilingualism and multilingualism,
  2. broadening the framework of second language pedagogy to include application for mainstream schools,
  3. creating a language awareness curriculum for schools and introducing reading intervention programs in the context of mainstream, bilingual and heritage language schools in Canada.

The National Writing Project is proud to support Global Conversations in Literacy Research (GCLR), a series of interactive web seminars that feature cutting-edge literacy research conducted by international literacy researchers. GCLR is grounded in critical literacy, and, like the National Writing Project, sees as its mission to use new and emerging technologies to connect global audiences in an exchange of ideas on literacy theory, research, and practice through free and open access to webinars.
