They began with their letter voices but as the year went along they broadened their range, handling narrative voice and exposition. And they used their voices to engage their audience, to make their readers understand their favorite holidays, their impetuosity, their playfulness, their history, their literary perceptions, their hurts, their romances, their joy at improving as writers this year. The Burlington-Danes students heard them and applauded. So did I.
