Writing Project Facilitates Digital Writing Studies in Alabama

Summary: Etowah County Schools in Alabama, teaming up with the Jacksonville State University Writing Project, received a grant to use 21st-century classroom tools to improve student academic achievement. The grant was designed around NWP's book Because Digital Writing Matters.

Some of our at-risk students don't know the right answer, but they have a good answer. Some of the activities we'll implement will help students make a point without worrying if it's right or wrong."

A portion of the grant will be used for professional development for teachers in project-based learning to improve reading and the integration of 21st Century skills, especially digital literacy.

English Language Arts teachers at the middle and high schools will participate in an online book study by reviewing the book "Because Digital Writing Matters."
