Excerpt from Show

Patti Swank, Piasa Bluffs Writing Project, on responsive design and the collaboration with the St. Louis Art Museum:

We explored what it is we wanted to do, and then we envisioned 'How will that look?' and as we enacted it we decided, 'Okay, now what do we want our students left with after we complete this?' And it's a circular thing, it's not an, 'Okay, we're finished with that lesson and that's the end of it.' It's an ongoing process. If you think of a Mobius strip, that it's a Mobius strip that gains momentum, and then we even think of it as something that spirals up as it's in movement. And all the things we're doing are prototypes, that it's something we haven't done before. I've taught 26 years and I could go into my file cabinet and I could pull something out and I could use it again and again and again, and what we did, on this day, is we stepped out and tried things that we had never done, and in ways we had never done it before; the teachers didn't even know what they were getting into. I just said, 'Would you be willing to try this?' And they trusted me and they went with it.
