Excerpt from Show

Kent Williamson , executive director of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), talks about what NCLE is:

...we also are working in two other important realms: research and public policy. So by studying the work of teams at different levels of development, and looking kind of at the families they are attempting to serve—the community environments in which these teachers are working; the communication structures in their schools; and the degree to which there's a coherent approach to literacy that cuts across home and school and multiple grade levels and different content areas—we're able to begin to make some generalizations about what really makes a difference in literacy learning over time. If we can consolidate those findings in ways that really make some sense for policymakers, then we've really done our job.
