Stephanie Anderson

Teacher-Leader
Saginaw Bay Writing Project
Port Austin, MI
Stephanie Anderson has 25 years of experience teaching English in a small high school in the “thumb” of Michigan where she focuses on eleventh-grade writing and other writing electives that encourage students to write for the greater community. Finding the Saginaw Bay Writing Project in her twelfth year of teaching changed the course of her career. Since her first writing institute, her goal has been to make the Writing Project accessible to local teachers. She has served on the advisory board of the Saginaw Bay Writing Project for 13 years and created and led many writing workshops and classes in that capacity. She partnered with NWP board member George Haley to bring the Writing Project into Huron County for the first week-long writing institute in that area. She also started Write Now!, a writing group in her community that meets monthly, and has facilitated the group for 13 years. She is passionate about supporting teachers and students in rural schools by helping them connect to larger networks and find their voices as writers.
