Prior to the summer institute, each NWP site invites new summer fellows to a pre-institute orientation meeting, typically held on a Saturday morning or weekday evening. Participants are introduced to the summer institute by previewing the components of the summer institute—teacher demonstrations of promising practices, writing response groups, and readings and research.
The meeting also provides an opportunity to present the first major writing assignment so that summer fellows can begin work on a draft to bring on the first day of the institute.
