Pauline Sahakian, a Fresno State alumna with three degrees from the university, retired in 2018 after a distinguished 50-year career as an educator. She taught English and AP courses in Clovis Unified School District and served as founding director of the UC Merced Writing Project for 18 years, leading professional development programs for K-12 teachers. A first-generation Armenian American, Sahakian continues to write memoir-style essays in retirement while reflecting on how her formal education at Fresno State transformed her into both a writer and a more effective writing teacher.
