PhilWP Connects Penn GSE Students and Teens Through Young Adult Literature

Penn GSE graduate students collaborated with ninth graders from Science Leadership Academy at Beeber to read and discuss Ibi Zoboi’s Pride, a modern remix of Pride and Prejudice. The joint project, led by lecturer Jen McLaughlin Cahill and SLA Beeber educator Njemele Anderson, brought young adults directly into a graduate-level classroom, positioning them as intellectual partners. This collaboration, rooted in the Philadelphia Writing Project (PhilWP), highlighted the power of youth literacies and gave students the chance to see themselves as future educators and scholars.
