Northern Michigan University English professor Kel Sassi has been elected vice president of the Michigan Council of Teachers of English (MCTE). She is only the second person from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to serve in the organization’s presidential cycle in its 103-year history. Sassi, who also directs the Northern Shores Storywork Writing Project, will serve a four-year term progressing through MCTE’s leadership roles, continuing her work to support teachers and advance anti-racist, inclusive practices in English education.
